0.2.0 - Combos, Patterns and Powerups

This release covers features that were planned for the original jam, as well as a few new ideas.

New Features

  • Combo system that rewards players for frying enemy ships in quick succession.
  • Powerups that extend the connecting spring or add deadly shields around the two ship halves.
  • Players are now able to fix either half of their ship in place, creating new opportunities for extravagant moves.
  • New bullet patterns: Spiral, sine wave and homing bullets.
  • New enemy type: A counterpart to the player's ship, two halves connected by a less deadly spring. AI is WIP.
  • Improved enemy AI: Fire direction determined by spawn side, blocked parts start firing if the blocking part is destroyed.
  • Bullet explosions.
  • Stars in the background.
  • Ship colors on health bar.
  • Extended soundtrack.

Bug Fixes

  • Score system replaced, no longer results in absurdly large scores.
  • Enemies no longer fire after game over.
  • Health bar should respond immediately (though less smoothly).
  • Bullets disappear when outside arena (previously only when diagonally outside, whoops).

Known Issues

  • Health bar doesn't work perfectly.
  • Balance is skewed heavily in the player's favor by the introduction of the powerups.
  • Some animations may not play.
